PFI construction in the healthcare sector

The substantial growth in rebuilding the NHS estate has largely been due to the influx of funds through the auspices of PFI (Private Finance Initiative).

PFI construction projects of values up to £800m are currently being delivered in the healthcare sector.

Major contractors providing these services, usually in partnership with finance houses and FM companies are:
Carillion, Laing O'Rourke, AMEC, Bovis LL, Skanska, Costain, Taylor Woodrow, HBG, Bouygues

ModuleCo, the UK's leading supplier of modular healthcare buildings, has pioneered the use of off-site construction to solve accommodation and capacity issues within the NHS. The modular facilities we provide have proved to be an invaluable resource to many healthcare providers. Now we are able to offer a service to companies involved in the PFI construction schemes, providing specialist healthcare buildings for either permanent or decant use.

Permanent
ModuleCo's off-site construction building expertise extends to the provision of permanent healthcare buildings.

Built in the factory, ensuring extremely high levels of quality and finish, our buildings can be produced with a design life in excess of 60 years and incorporate an extremely robust structural frame and options for either suspended or concrete floors.

The building can be finished externally in a variety of cladding materials, ranging from traditional brick to various rain-screen or timber claddings. This provides the opportunity to integrate the new building with the external surroundings. This enables us to produce a facility within a short timescale that is both aesthetically pleasing and appropriate for its environment.

Decant facilities
A major requirement of PFI healthcare schemes is effective decant of patients and staff into temporary buildings. This allows effective, controlled and sectional construction of the new facility.

The range of decant facilities required for one hospital project can range from office and domestic accommodation to highly technical space such as operating theatres, clean rooms, diagnostic imaging and laboratories. ModuleCo offers a decant management package, including the provision of buildings that incorporate sufficient flexibility to allow their use to be changed during their site tenure by adding or removing modules.
