Flexible off-site manufacturing

Most Flexible offsite manufacturing

An off site manufactured hospital building offers the most flexible, re-usable solution possible, creating a method of providing healthcare buildings that are truly sustainable. Pre-Assembled Unit (PAU) life spans can vary from a 25 to 60 year design life dependent on frame type and specification employed.

Options such as concrete floors are permissible within the frame, which benefits from a void at ceiling level allowing easy re-configuration and re-routing of mechanical and electrical services. During the life cycle of the building, floors can be reconfigured with new mechanical and electrical services easily accommodated in the service void.

Externally, the cladding and roofing detail of the building can be adapted to blend in with the surrounding buildings. This is possible because these elements are non-structural, as the PAUs themselves are load bearing. Numerous options are available from simple rain screen claddings, brick and masonry and other systems, many of which can be fitted in the off-site manufacturing facility. Most modern roofing systems can be utilised with the structure because of the load bearing capacity of the individual units.

Should the facility need to be enlarged at any point during the period of use, additional PAUs can be added, often over night, the extension services all fitted out in the off site manufacturing facility and easily connected in the ceiling void once delivered.

True sustainability is achieved after the initial period of use of the building as a Healthcare building is deemed to be over.

The building can be relocated en masse to another site, and either used for the same purpose for which it was originally constructed, or re-configured for an alternative requirement. The building also has the potential to be broken down into a series of smaller modular buildings that can be relocated at several different sites.

The off-site construction method of providing Healthcare buildings offers sustainability in a genuine way that traditional construction will never be able to match. It will become the preferred method of providing Hospital Buildings in the future.
