Modular twin operating theatre by ModuleCo


Twin operating theatre, Liverpool, ProCure21 Working with principal supply chain partner ACM Health Solutions, ModuleCo built a new twin operating theatre suite at Alder Hey Hospital, Liverpool as part of a ProCure21 project.

				The requirement. ACM Health Solutions was selected as the principal supply chain partner to provide a new two-storey neurology block and additional operating theatres to Royal Liverpool Children’s NHS Trust, under the ProCure21 initiative.

Royal Liverpool Children’s NHS Trust required new facilities to reduce patient waiting times, enhance staff working conditions and vastly improve the welfare of the children of Liverpool and the surrounding areas.

The challenges. A new twin operating theatre suite was required to be positioned in close proximity to the existing operating department, be operational within a tight timescale and provide a pleasant environment for both patients and staff. Alternative financial arrangements were required to finance the facility from a new revenue stream.

The solution. Using off-site construction, ModuleCo provided a high quality, modular twin operating theatre suite with minimum disruption to patient care. Due to the building being manufactured off-site whilst the foundations were completed on site, the new operating theatre suite was available for use in 12 weeks.

				Both operating theatres incorporate concrete floors, which eliminate vibration, and seamless vinyl wall finishes for improved hygiene and ease of maintenance. One of the theatres is equipped with a ceiling mounted microscope for ophthalmic procedures.

The facility was provided through ACM’s Managed Service Facility contract, the first to be delivered under ProCure21 using private finance.

The result. The 525m² modular facility includes two operating theatres each supported by anaesthetic, preparation, scrub rooms and shared dirty utility room, 6-bed recovery unit, clean and dirty decontamination areas, staff changing rooms, staff rest room and reception. It offers a bright, comfortable and functional setting for the treatment of children.
